The O.C. Wikia:Canon

From The O.C. Wikia

Canon is defined as the bodies of work that are considered to be "genuine" or "official" within a certain fictional universe.

In the case of The O.C., the only canon source of information is the television series itself. While the creators of The O.C. have never explicitly stated their views on the canonicity of the The O.C. novels, we at the The O.C. Wikia have chosen to accept information from all official sources of The O.C. story material. In the case of contradictory information, we utilize the following Order of Precedence to determine which facts are "true."

  1. TV series - Information from episodes of The O.C. overrides contradictory facts from any other source.
  2. Novels - The novels are considered a form of "official" fan fiction. They are created without the participation of the show's creators, but as long as it doesn't contradict anything shown on TV, information culled from these stories are fit for inclusion on the The O.C.. However, information about characters on the show is not acceptable, only information that pertains to characters introduced in the novels are acceptable.

Note: Information from DVD deleted scenes and omitted scenes from scripts are NOT considered canon.
